I agree with everything you said. "Liberal" should be a label everyone strives for. But, you know, the right wingers have redefined "liberal" to the point it rings with a negative connotation for many folks. And since communication is the name of the game, I suggest (and personally use) the label "progressive." Same meaning (in fact, a little more descriptive) with a more positive appeal (I believe).
